Doing a Bachelor's or Master's in France

Université en France

Did you know that France is the fourth most attractive European destination for international students? It offers an exceptional quality of life and many advantages for expatriates wishing to join a university. Let’s talk about the advantages and modalities of studying in France.

The advantages of studying in France

France offers high quality courses and the diplomas it awards are recognized throughout the world. Thanks to the funding provided to the universities by the State, tuition fees in France are ridiculously low compared to those in the United Kingdom and the United States. Indeed, in public education, a Bachelor’s degree costs 184 € per year, a Master’s 256 € and a PhD 391 €. In the public sector, the most expensive studies are engineering degrees: 610 € per year. France is also renowned for its public subsidies from which international students can benefit, thus considerably improving their quality of life. They include: housing assistance, access to university restaurants, health insurance (only € 250 per year) and numerous discounts on transport and in cultural venues. Students from European Union countries must go through the Post-Bac Admission Platform (APB), a centralized system common to all French universities. Candidates indicate their academic and university wishes and then submit an application with their CV, transcripts and cover letter. Students outside the European Union must complete a Preliminary Admission Application (DAP) at the Cultural Department of the French Embassy in their country. In all cases, prospective students must take a French exam to prove their ability to speak and write French. CIA offers specialized courses to prepare students wishing to join a French university. Covering all levels, they consist of french intensive courses for 20 to 29 weeks. In 2015, 97% of the students in this program passed their exam and were accepted into a French university. For more information, contact a CIA advisor.

Why study in France?

Beyond the prestigious diplomas and the ideal lifestyle, studying in France will allow you to become perfectly bilingual. French is a language spoken all over the world: there are 180 million French-speaking people throughout the world. In addition to this, French is the official language of many international political and legal organizations, including the UN, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court and the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague. If a license or a Master's degree seems too long, you can always start with a first immersion course of a few days or weeks thanks to the many programs offered at CIA.
