Want to combine vacation,
learning French and adventure? The
French Riviera is the ideal destination for an
unforgettable language stay! Located between the sea and mountains, the south of France attracts tourists from all over the world. With its sunny climate, turquoise beaches and summer vibe, it offers an
exceptional setting for anyone wanting to visit the
French Riviera while
learning French.
Since 1985, the
Centre International d’Antibes has welcomed thousands of students from around the world each summer for language stays that combine French classes, supervised accommodation, and a full program of excursions, activities, and cultural visits.
Whether you’re planning a
first trip to France or looking for a
language immersion program for teens, our excursions on the French Riviera are among the highlights of a stay with us.
Here’s our pick of the top 5 must-do outings:
Just a few minutes by boat from
Cannes, the Lérins Islands offer a peaceful break from the city. During this excursion, students embark on a sea adventure through natural landscapes. Sainte-Marguerite Island, famous for its turquoise waters and pine forests, enchants with its tranquility and authenticity. You’ll also find the Royal Fort, once the prison of the Man in the Iron Mask.
Just across, Saint-Honorat Island is home to a still-active abbey and vineyards cultivated by monks. It’s a perfect spot for a cultural walk and some downtime.
You can’t stay on the French Riviera without visiting Monaco. Less than an hour from Antibes, this destination enchants with its unique blend of traditional architecture and postcard-perfect scenes—it embodies Mediterranean prestige.
The visit usually begins in the old town, on the Rock. There you’ll find the Prince’s Palace (with the changing of the guard), pedestrian streets, little squares and a sea view. This peaceful, historical district stands in stark contrast to Monaco’s modern and luxurious image.
Nearby is the Oceanographic Museum, perched on a cliff, housing an aquarium and exhibitions on marine life—ideal for combining discovery and environmental awareness.
The stroll continues in Monte Carlo, the principality’s emblematic district. Here you’ll see gardens, luxury cars, high-end boutiques, and the famous Casino’s architecture.
Monaco shows another side of the French Riviera. In just one day, you move from the Mediterranean to a world of luxury. A memorable contrast—and a great opportunity to practice French in a stimulating environment.
Cannes is one of the most iconic cities on the French Riviera. Known worldwide for its famous
Film Festival, it also appeals to young people with its chic yet accessible vibe, beaches, and lively seafront.
The visit usually starts with a walk along the Croisette. This palm-lined promenade runs along the beaches and historic palaces. It’s here you’ll find the legendary Festival spots: the Palais des Festivals, the red carpet, the stars’ handprints... A one-of-a-kind setting, perfect for photos and immersing yourself in cinema culture.
But Cannes isn’t just about glamour. The Suquet district offers a totally different vibe: narrow alleys, panoramic viewpoints, and Provençal charm. It's a snapshot of everything that makes the Riviera so special: sunshine, the sea, culture, and a unique way of life.
The French Riviera stands out for its iconic beaches like those along Nice’s Promenade des Anglais, Cap d’Antibes, or the Sablettes Beach in Menton—perfect for a mix of sunbathing and water activities. From paddleboarding in Villefranche Bay to sailing off the coast of Cannes, scuba diving, kayaking, or parasailing, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the Mediterranean—whether you're after thrills or just relaxing on the water.
This park perched above Nice offers one of the city’s most stunning views. From the trails, you can watch the sun set over the Baie des Anges, with a view of the harbor, old town, and the Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula.
Accessible by a hike, this rocky peak in the Var rises to over 370 meters in altitude. It offers an incredible view of the Estérel mountains, the distant sea, and nearby villages.
Located above Monaco, this summit is one of the best-known on the Riviera. It offers a panoramic view over the Principality, the Mediterranean, and the mountains of the hinterland.
Less frequented, this plateau above the village of Èze is a true haven of peace. It offers an open view of the hills, capes, and sea.
These five excursions perfectly illustrate the richness and diversity of the French Riviera. From nature to cities, cultural heritage, and relaxation, each outing is a unique opportunity to explore the South in a different way—while practicing French in a vibrant and inspiring context.
At the Centre International d’Antibes, we believe that
learning French also happens outside the classroom. That’s why our programs include these authentic experiences.
