Learning French on the French Riviera: Franz's experience at the Centre International d’Antibes

Learn French while enjoying the beauty and charm of the French Riviera, this is what the Centre International d’Antibes offers. Whether you are passionate about the language, looking to improve your level for professional reasons, or simply seeking a cultural immersion, our French language school in France offers a unique experience tailored to all profiles.
Franz, a student from Denmark, shares his journey with us. At 60, he decided to start learning French, and for eight years, he returns every year to further develop his skills. In his testimonial, Franz tells us why he chose Antibes, how he has progressed in the language, and what makes his experience at the Centre International d’Antibes so special.

Could you introduce yourself? How long have you been with us?

My name is Franz, a name that originally means “French”. I did my first internship 8 years ago, at the age of 60.
Since then, I return every year with the same enthusiasm and curiosity. However, I had to take a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which made it impossible to organize classes in France. Despite that, my desire to continue this experience remained unchanged.

How did you discover the Centre International d’Antibes? And why did you choose us?

I discovered the Centre International d’Antibes almost by chance, while searching online for a school offering French courses. Since I had already had the chance to spend a few vacations on the French Riviera, and I had great memories of it, I immediately thought of Antibes. The combination of the city and the reputation of the Centre International d’Antibes convinced me, and that’s how I chose this school to perfect my French.

What were your first impressions of the Centre International d’Antibes when you arrived?

Before answering, I must say that I took my first class at the Centre International d’Antibes at the age of 59. During and after my studies, I did two years of French at the University of Copenhagen, and I was able to teach courses in linguistic computing there. Thus, I came as a mix of student and teacher.

Perhaps this is why I became friends not only with the reception staff but also with the teaching staff, and this continues, even after eight years.
Additionally, I always offered to create the program for my classes (private lessons). This way, I can ask for support on the subjects that interest me and where I think I have the most difficulties with the French language.

For example, when I worked as a project manager in a private company, we studied the culture of French businesses and the vocabulary you need to master. This allowed me to hold conferences with my colleagues in France and Canada in French, which made meetings not only more personal but also much more effective.

Are you satisfied with your experience? Do you think you’ve made progress in French?

Yes, absolutely, which is why I’ve come back so many times. My experience has been very enriching. Regarding my level of French, thanks to grammar books, numerous discussions, and the countless corrections I’ve received, I can affirm that my progress has been substantial. I really feel that I’ve improved my skills and mastery of the language thanks to the courses I’ve had at the Centre International d’Antibes.

Another aspect that has been particularly beneficial for me is the possibility of taking private lessons, where we can focus on specific topics with our teacher.

Additionally, I no longer hesitate to present myself at the counter at the train station or ask for help in bookstores. Admittedly, I still make many mistakes, and there are many words I don’t know, but I am now much more at ease and confident that I can make myself understood, much more than before.

Would you recommend the Centre International d’Antibes to other students? Why?

Absolutely, but I want to add that when you go for a French course in France as an adult, you need to have clear ideas about your needs. You need to know what you want – that way you can make the most of your collaboration with the highly qualified teachers at the Centre International d’Antibes.
I especially recommend the Centre International d’Antibes for its commitment to our successful learning of the language and also the local culture. The pedagogical approach and the warm atmosphere of the centre make it an ideal place to progress, both linguistically and culturally.

Franz's experience perfectly illustrates that learning French can become both an exciting and deeply enriching adventure, no matter your age or background. Whether your motivations are personal or professional, the Centre International d’Antibes welcomes you in an exceptional setting, conducive to growth and success, in the heart of the French Riviera.

Learn French at the Centre International d’Antibes, it’s much more than taking French classes: it’s living a unique human experience, filled with international encounters, rich cultural discoveries, and tangible linguistic progress. Whether you're a beginner, professional, retiree, or simply curious... our programs are designed to fit your profile and objectives.

And who knows? Like Franz, you might make this experience an annual tradition!
